The 4 biggest reasons you aren’t losing weight

1: The number of times you eat in a day is TOO HIGH

I am not suggesting measuring your food or even focusing on the kinds of foods/drinks you are consuming. I am talking about how much you ingest.

Aiming for 3-4 meal frequencies in a day is a great goal and backed by some solid science. Sit down, minimize distractions, put the fork down between bites, and consume everything together… Don’t graze throughout the day.

2: You go out to eat TOO MUCH

Some of the richest dishes can be made at home and be significantly better for you than your favorite meal out. Time to stay inside…mostly. Buy the whole foods, prepare the meals, and do the majority of your eating while at home, if possible. We can all agree that time is precious and I respect that for everyone reading this. No matter where you fall on the spectrum of Rachel Ray or Hungry Man dinners, there is a workable option for everyone.  For instance, buy pre-cut veggies or meats, try slow cooker recipes and load up the pot and let the crock do the rest!  Look into meal kit delivery companies (read the reviews). Start slow, and try to cook two days per week and let the leftovers span out for a few of the other days.  Going out to dinner is a treat, and I can definitely agree that it is fun to do so, just try to limit your outings to under twice per week. This small tweak could reap alot of benefits, not only on your wallet, but your waistline too!

3: You don’t need another diet. You need ACCOUNTABILITY

No, this is not a sales pitch for myself or my industry. However, yes, we will hold you accountable and yes, we will notice when the needle moves a little or alot. Professional coaches exist in almost all industries these days, from nutrition and health, to law and medicine. People need accountability in so many areas of their lives. Why? To list a few, a qualified and experienced coach can help with the following:

  • You will attain further goals than you would have on your own;
  • You will make less mistakes than you would on your own;
  • Your coach will help you navigate the misinformation and keep you on an efficient and educated path to success;
  • You will save time on your journey, whatever it may be, and this will leave you more time for things you enjoy!

Note: Your coach’s commitment to your goals as well as the collaborative experience between you and your coach is a central reason that people report for why they hire a coach, and further, that their success can be directly attributed to hiring their coach in the first place.

4: Work With Your BIOLOGY – Not Against it

In the first 0-8 hours upon waking, we are more action-oriented than in the latter half of our day. Imagine you are similar to that of a high resolution camera lens during these hours. The focus is sharp and everything is visible on your daily list of “must do’s”. During these 0-8 hours we’re also easily distracted so be mindful to not succumb.

Figure out your Most Important Task(s) (MITs) and tackle those within the first 8 hours of waking for your day. Some common MITs are as follows:

  • Exercise;
  • Meal prep;
  • Drafting your daily work schedule/meetings;
  • Listing out personal tasks/chores;
  • Spending quality time with your spouse/partner/kids.

Whatever you need to accomplish, just start! Take action, however small, and make them consistent. Consistent behavior, over measured time, will always yield positive results when compared to operating in a disorganized, chaotic environment where the above method is not implemented to some degree.

As fellow Stoics say:

Memento Mori: “Let us prepare our minds as if we’d come to the very end of life. Let us postpone nothing. Let us balance life’s books each day. … The one who puts the finishing touches on their life each day is never short of time.” – Seneca
